There is so much I want to share with you about what I have learned in 50 years of studying near-death experiences.

Is there a life after life? This is the question that has guided my life and my work for half a century.

In 1975, I published the book Life After Life, in which I coined the term "near-death experience." The book was based on the dozens of cases I witnessed while in medical school of people who died and came back to life.

While I had no doubts that the accounts people shared were very real to them, I was not fully convinced that the near-death experience was actual proof of an afterlife.

However, in the years since I wrote Life After Life, I have had the honor and privilege to meet hundreds of medical professionals and thousands of patients who have shared with me their research and their accounts associated with near-death experiences.

And now I want to discuss these with you--and explain to you why, even after years of skeptical inquiry, I have now concluded that consciousness survives.

We Will Discuss...

The Near-Death Experience

When I was a medical student, I was intrigued by the accounts of patients who had died and were then resuscitated. These patients shared astonishing accounts with me of a world beyond this one and many describe that they never felt as alive as when they were dead.

These accounts fascinated me, so I researched their experiences and I coined the term near-death experience to describe the collection of common patterns that emerged in their experiences. Since then, researchers around the globe have investigated  the near-death experiences of thousands of patients and I will share the findings with you.

The Shared-Death Experience

Those who are living, and are in the company of the dying, often report unusual transpersonal phenomena that are similar to those described by near-death survivors. We will explore the core components of the shared-death experience and explore some astonishing accounts. We will analyze why shared-death experiences are so important to better understanding the survival of consciousness.

Grief & After-Death Experiences

Grief also opens the door to powerful transpersonal and psychological experiences. I will give a short overview of these. After-death communication( ADC)  is among the experiences commonly reported during the grieving process.

The research tells us that ADC is more commonly experienced than investigators had previously believed. However, in truth, connecting with the deceased has been something done ritually and routinely in many cultures over the centuries and across the globe.

A Little About Me

My name is Raymond Moody.  In 1975, I coined the term near-death experience in my book Life After Life.

For half a century,  I have researched some of life’s greatest mysteries. As both a PhD in philosophy and an MD, I have had a strong interest  in how medical realities intersect with the ineffable realm of philosophy.

Throughout my 50-year career, I have explored  themes related to the transpersonal aspects of death, dying and grief.  In my book Glimpses of Eternity, I discuss the phenomena of shared-death experiences. I write about my inquiry into past lives in my book Coming Back and share methods  for evoking the dead, from Ancient Greece to modern times, in my book Reunions.

I have a passion for language, which I share with my colleague and co-founder of the University of Heaven,  Lisa Smartt.  Lisa is a linguist, poet and educator whose book Words at the Threshold  shares the early findings of our research  into the enigmatic words of the dying though The Final Words Project.

With the  help of my friends and colleagues, I will share with you all  we have discovered at the most fascinating frontiers of  life and death.
